Recycling Bins in the Workplace

Now more than ever, there is a need to recycle waste. Introducing easy ways of recycling into the workplace can help reduce waste and make a positive impact on the environment. Place recycling bins and recycling stations in key areas around the workplace including offices and kitchens where there may be lots of waste. It can be made effortless with clear signage on bins and different colours to help people identify what and where they can recycle. Different bins for different types of waste and recycling can encourage people to dispose of their waste correctly. You can also use larger wheelie bins for recycling by adding a paper slot or a glass/bottle chute where applicable. Purchasing the wheelie bins in different colours can also aid people in recycling the correct items.

The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) is an organisation which focuses on recycling and reducing waste. They work with many different industries, to improve recycling collections, reduction in waste and offering advice on helping people recycle more. WRAP has consistent colours for waste and recycling to make it clear what can be recycled at a glance. Recycling bins can be purchased with coloured lids and the WRAP signage for easily identification in the workplace.

Different identifying colours for different types of waste include (though these may differ to a customers preference with easy identification labels):

  • Yellow: Textiles
  • Red: Plastics
  • Blue: Paper
  • Green: Garden Waste
  • Blue: Glass/Bottles
  • Brown: Building Materials
  • Grey: Metals
  • Black: Automotive Waste
  • Pink: Electrical
  • Yellow: Hazardous Materials

There are also different types of recycling logos which can easily identify what to recycle and if a product is recyclable or not. These are a few of the different recycling icons which can be identified on packaging to make recycling easier.

  • Widely Recycled - This label is applied to packaging that is collected by 75% or more of local authorities across the UK, for example plastic bottles.
  • Not Yet Recycled - This label is applied to packaging when less than 20% of local authorities collect it across the UK, for example crisp packets.
  • The Green Dot - Signifies that the producer has made a financial contribution towards the recovery and recycling of packaging in Europe.
  • Mobius Loop - This indicates that an object is capable of being recycled.
  • Glass - This symbol asks that you recycle the glass/bottle container.
  • Tidyman - This symbol from Keep Britain Tidy asks you not to litter.

Recycling can have a large effect on the environment and the way we live. Waste has a negative impact on the environment with harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses released from rubbish in landfill site. Huge amounts of energy is needed to make products from raw materials, and recycling can help reduce that. Making new products from recycled materials requires less energy than making products from virgin materials. Financial expenditure can also be reduced by recycling as its more expensive to produce products from raw materials.

Many people are good at recycling at home, but a quarter of waste produced in England is produced by businesses. Many businesses have said that recycling have improved their reputation within the local community. Start making your positive impact on the environment by selecting one of our recycling bins to add to your office or work environment. We have many different types of bins available, so you will easily find one to suit. Encourage your staff to use the recycling bins with the clear signage and labels available with the bins.

Identify what needs to be recycled in your office, by looking at the key materials that are thrown away. Encourage your staff to recycle by encouraging senior management, giving out important information in meetings or posters, make sure cleaning staff are recycling correctly, and installing single waste and recycling points.

We offer a large range of wheelie bins, including the common household 2 wheeled wheelie bins, all the way up to the big 4 wheeled wheelie bins for larger waste capacities. We also offer a range of recycling bins with easy to identify labels and colours, highlighting the recyclable contents to be collected. Our recycling bins are very popular in the office and workplace and excellent value for money.
